The Lowdown on Car Insurance Companies

Researching car insurance companies is not fun for anyone, and most likely is a chore that isn’t looked to with excitement. Most folks don’t know where to start when looking for new car insurance. Opening the phone book and finding pages and pages of insurance agents and companies is quite overwhelming to anyone looking for car insurance for their vehicle. Car insurance companies use many different factors to give rate quotes to insurance shoppers. The easiest way to find car insurance quotes is to use the internet to compare companies. Several companies make their insurance rates available on the computer for many to see.

Car insurance companies that are available on the internet often only require a short questionnaire that needs to be filled out by the insurance shopper. The questionnaire asks information about the driver, such as age, address, education, occupation, credit information and how long they have been driving. Other information on the form is about the car itself, and asks where the car will be stored, where it will be driven, how it will be used, type of car, if car is paid off and if car has anti-theft or other protection features on it. One note to remember, hybrid or semi-hybrid vehicles receive an insurance discount as well.

There are ways to save money on your car insurance rate as well. Car insurance companies will give discounts for a variety of reasons. These include being a member of a certain group (I.e, credit union, alumni or discount club) that is affiliated with the insurance, having multiple cars under the same policy, having renters or home  with he same company, being a good student and having a car with anti-theft devices in it. One of the easiest ways to get a car insurance discount is to have a clean driving record. The better driver you are, the better rate you will receive on your insurance.

There are other ways to lower your car insurance as well. If you drive an older car that is paid off, it is wise to drop your coverage down to what is legally needed in your state. Also, having a higher deductible will knock money off of your premium. Many people love the idea of a $100 deductible, but that will make your insurance quite expensive. It be wiser to have a deductible of $500 or more if you are looking to save money on insurance.
